RETROFITTING AN OXFORDSHIRE HOUSE

Cook & Cardenas helped to identify and quantify a comprehensive retrofit strategy for a country house in Oxfordshire.

The work involved an efficient but expert assessment of the current building and a comparison of options to improve the building’s energy efficiency, heating and ventilation performance. We prioritised options and improvements to the building fabric and low carbon heating systems, while ensuring that excellent levels of indoor air quality would be maintained.

We helped to provide clarity amongst the options by identifying some priorities from improvements to specific parts of the house– 50% of the property’s heat loss, for example, was occurring in a relatively small section of wall due to its original construction style. We provided detailed design and instruction on how to upgrade this area and complemented it with an expert analysis of heating and ventilation equipment that can save on costs, reduce emissions, and improve the comfort of the home.
