Cook & Cardenas is helping Eynsham Park Estate to develop a comprehensive strategy to support estate-wide decarbonisation which involves a series of properties and significant investments by the client.

The project has required Cook & Cardenas to guide the client through a landscape of changing government policy and involved multiple streams of work to illustrate a strategic decarbonisation pathway that maximises returns to the landlord whilst also reducing bills for tenants.

  • Key Insights

    The private rental sector is one of the most challenging areas to decarbonise in the UK. As energy costs and savings are mostly borne by renters in their use of the building, there are few financial incentives for landlords to invest in capital upgrades that create energy savings and related reductions in operational carbon emissions.

    In this project, our clients have worked with us to explore an innovative way to change this through a decentralised power plant approach. The aim of this approach has been to move tenant bills away from paying utility companies to paying the landlord for electricity and heat.

    To enable this, we have supported the client to design and implement estate-wide solar installations, explore heat-as-a-service and micro-grids on the property.

    This direction has helped to improve the building stock onsite, reducing running costs and emissions. It stands to providing a financial return for the landlord and improve the value of the property portfolio.
